By the end of the 19th century, Glasgow School of Art was one of the leading art academies in Europe. In the late 1890’s a young man called Mackintosh enrolled here and pursued various drawing programmes. He became a pioneering Glaswegian architect, designer, and artist. His work became renowned around Europe and Glasgow is the only city in the world where you can see a concentration of his work.

GLASGOW SCHOOL OF ART

Although damaged by a fire a few years ago, this building is Mackintosh’s Masterwork, and is just over a mile from our hotel.

MACKINTOSH AT THE WILLOW

The original Willow Tea Rooms was designed by Mackintosh. He designed the exterior and interior and it is Mackintosh’s only surviving Tea Rooms opened to the public in 2018 after an extensive renovation programme. Located in Sauchiehall Street, the venue has the tea rooms, visitor information, an exhibition centre, and a retail store to enjoy. A must visit!

KELVINGROVE ART GALLERY & MUSEUM

Immerse yourself in the wonderful world of Charles Rennie Mackintosh at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. Here you will find the largest display in the city of his work including stained glass, works on paper, textiles and embroidery, furniture, and interiors and so on.
